Vintage Japanese Cobalt Blue Vases — Hand-Painted Pair
These photos were taken outdoors in natural light — and that's where the magic happens.
Deep, saturated cobalt blue that absolutely TRANSFORMS depending on the light. Step outside? Vivid, electric royal blue that stops you in your tracks. Bring them indoors and they settle into a rich, moody navy-cobalt. Both looks are real. Both are shown in photos. The first shots are sun-drenched; the later ones show how they read in normal home lighting.
This is a matched pair of vintage Japanese cobalt blue art pottery vases, hand-painted with traditional floral and bird motifs in delicate gold outline. One vase features lush peonies and cherry blossoms with a cart detail; the other captures a bird in flight among flowering plum branches. They're different shapes — one classic round baluster, one modern square column — but clearly born together.
The Details:
• Origin: Japan, stamped "Bijutsu Tōki" (Art Pottery)
• Era: Mid-century, c. 1950s–1970s
